Biography
Ahmes lived in ancient Egypt during the Second Intermediate Period. Almost nothing personal is known about him, but his name survives because he copied a mathematical manuscript from an older source.
The papyrus contains worked problems involving unit fractions, areas, volumes, distribution, and everyday calculations. It is not a modern textbook, yet it shows a deliberate teaching sequence: state a problem, work through a method, and record a result.
